“I Took the Leap to Calgary — And You Can Too”

When I first moved to Calgary back in 2013, I only knew one person. I had nothing but a suitcase, a dream, and a whole lot of uncertainty. For a while, I even stayed with a friend just trying to find my footing. Starting over from scratch in a brand-new city was equal parts terrifying and exciting — but it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.

Calgary has this incredible way of welcoming people in. It’s a city built on opportunity, community, and possibility. What started as a risk for me quickly became a life I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. The stunning mountain views just an hour away, the vibrant neighbourhoods full of character, and the warmth of the people here make Calgary truly one of a kind.

If I could move here with nothing and build a life I love, I promise — you can too. Sometimes the biggest risks lead to the most rewarding chapters of our lives, and Calgary is the perfect place to start fresh, grow, and thrive.

If Calgary is on your radar — whether you’re seriously considering relocating or just curious about what life here is like — reach out to me. I’d love to share my story, answer your questions, and show you exactly why this city is such an amazing place to call home.

Relocating

Step 1: Research Calgary Neighbourhoods

Start by exploring the different areas of the city " youtube will be your best friend". Do you want a vibrant downtown lifestyle, a family-friendly suburb, or somewhere closer to nature? Each neighborhood has its own vibe, schools, amenities, and access to transit.

Step 2: Set Your Budget

Determine what you can afford for housing, moving costs, and daily living. Calgary is more affordable than many Canadian cities, but planning ahead makes the transition smoother. Don’t forget to factor in utilities, insurance, and lifestyle expenses. "Pre-approval is key."

Step 3: Secure Housing

Decide whether you’ll rent first or jump straight into buying a home. Renting gives you flexibility while you explore the city, while buying is perfect if you’re ready to settle down. I recommend connecting with a local realtor — that’s me! — and planning a trip to Calgary to explore neighborhoods and get a real feel for where you want to live. While you’re here, you should also check out some homes in the areas that appeal to you. As your realtor (yes, me again!), I can have the homes you want to view ready and waiting, making your visit seamless and stress-free.

Step 4: Find Employment

Calgary has opportunities across industries like energy, tech, healthcare, and more. Update your resume, start networking, and explore job boards before moving. If you’re relocating with a current job, see if a transfer is possible.

Step 5: Plan Your Move

Book movers, pack smart, and make a checklist for utilities, insurance, and other essentials. Calgary’s location gives easy access to nearby provinces and the mountains — consider if you’ll need a car or if public transit works for you.

Step 6: Explore & Enjoy Calgary

oin local groups, meet your neighbors, and get involved in activities. Calgary is known for its friendly and welcoming community — connecting with others makes it feel like home faster.

Step 7: Build Your Community

Once you arrive, take time to discover your new city! From the stunning Rocky Mountains nearby to festivals, parks, and local hotspots, Calgary has something for everyone.

Step 8: Lean on a Local Guide
